Persistent rain on October 17, 2026 forced the abandonment of the fifth and final T20I at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, bringing the five-match series between India and West Indies to a 2-2 draw. With the series decider unable to produce a result, neither team could claim an outright victory, and the spoils were shared after what had been a closely fought campaign throughout.
The five-match T20I series ran from September 27 to October 17, 2026, and delivered an entertaining contest before rain intervened at the decisive moment. Both sides had won two matches apiece heading into the Bengaluru finale, making the washout all the more frustrating for players and supporters who had anticipated a winner being decided on the field.
What happened in the fifth T20I before play was called off?
India had reached 118 for 5 in 7.4 overs when rain halted their innings and prevented West Indies from beginning their chase. A revised target of 84 runs in five overs was set for West Indies under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, but further rain made any resumption impossible and the match was officially called off at 10:16 PM local time.
Ishan Kishan contributed a brisk 30 off 10 deliveries during India's innings, providing early momentum at the top of the order. Naman Dhir then offered late impetus in the lower order to help India post 118 for 5 before the weather intervened. The abandonment confirmed the series draw and denied both sides the chance to settle the contest on the field, leaving the Bengaluru crowd without the decisive finish they had come to witness.
Which statistical records did West Indies set across the series?
The series produced several notable numbers that reflected the aggressive cricket West Indies played throughout the five matches. West Indies recorded a run rate of 10.98 across the series, which is reported to be the highest by any Full Member team in a bilateral T20I series. The touring side also struck 105 sixes during the five games, placing that tally among the highest in bilateral T20I series history.
These figures underline the brand of cricket West Indies brought to India across the campaign, even though they were ultimately unable to convert that dominance into an outright series win. India and West Indies each take away a share of the series after a closely fought campaign that required a fifth match to separate them, only for rain to deny both sides a definitive outcome in Bengaluru.
