India and West Indies will contest the fifth and deciding T20I at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on October 17, 2026, with the match set to begin at 7:00 p.m. IST. The five-match series is locked at 2-2, placing everything on this final fixture.
Weather conditions in Bengaluru on match day are a concern. According to India Meteorological Department data, the city is expected to see generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers during the day. A thunderstorm and lightning warning has also been issued for October 17. Temperatures are forecast to range between 20°C and 29°C, though these IMD figures have not been independently verified.
Dew is separately forecast to be a factor during the evening hours, a tendency well established at this venue during October. With the match starting at 7:00 PM Indian Standard Time, the second innings could be played under heavy dew, adding another layer of complexity for both sides.
How could rain and dew affect the match at Chinnaswamy?
Should rain interrupt play, the match between India and West Indies would be reduced in overs and decided under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is equipped with an advanced drainage system, which can accelerate the resumption of play following a rain break. Even so, a sustained downpour or an active lightning warning could force a lengthy delay or, in the most severe scenario, an abandonment of the decider.
Dew in the second innings presents a distinct challenge. When the ball becomes wet and difficult to grip, bowlers lose the ability to generate swing or spin effectively, which tends to benefit the batting side chasing a target. The toss is therefore likely to carry considerable weight in the captains' thinking.
What are the key venue characteristics at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium?
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is recognised for its compact boundaries and reliable bounce, characteristics that consistently produce high-scoring T20 contests. These features, combined with the anticipated evening dew, are likely to make run-chasing a more attractive proposition than setting a total.
On the selection front, India's probable XI carries an uncertainty at the 11th position. Arshdeep Singh is carrying an injury doubt, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar identified as the alternative for that slot. A final call on the matter is expected closer to the toss.
Both teams will be hoping the weather allows a full 20-over contest at one of Indian cricket's most storied T20 venues, with a series title at stake.
