Travis Head moves to third on WTC all-time centuries list with 12 hundreds

Travis Head has reached 12 centuries in World Test Championship cricket, placing him third on the all-time list for hundreds in the competition. The Australian left-hander now sits behind only his compatriot Steve Smith and England's Joe Root in that ranking, cementing his standing as one of the most consistent century-makers of the WTC era.

Head's latest hundred adds to a tally that has grown steadily across multiple WTC cycles. His 12 centuries put him clear of the chasing pack and reflect a conversion rate in WTC cricket that has consistently placed him above several senior batters from other nations. Among the standout contributions in his WTC career is his 163 against India in the June 2023 WTC final at The Oval, an innings that played a central role in Australia's title victory on that occasion.

Where does Head stand relative to Smith and Root?

Joe Root leads the WTC all-time centuries list with 23 hundreds, a figure that places the England batter well clear of every other player in the competition's history. Steve Smith sits second with 14 WTC centuries, giving Australia two batters in the top three of this particular ranking.

Head's tally of 12 is two behind Smith and eleven behind Root. The gap to Smith is narrow enough that Head could close it across the current WTC cycle. Root's lead of 23 centuries represents a substantial margin that would require an extended and sustained run of form to challenge. With the current WTC cycle still ongoing, Head will have further opportunities to add to his tally before the next final is decided.

What does Head's WTC record show about his batting in the competition?

Head's 12 WTC centuries span multiple cycles of the competition since it began. His 163 in the 2023 WTC final at The Oval against India remains the standout innings of his WTC career to date, coming in a high-stakes match on a neutral venue and contributing directly to Australia's title win. That innings underlined his ability to perform when the stakes are highest, a quality that has defined his WTC record across different conditions and opponents.

His record across the competition shows a batter who has converted opportunities consistently at the highest level of Test cricket. Reaching 12 centuries in WTC cricket alone is a marker that few players have matched, and his position in third place on the all-time list reflects the volume and quality of his contributions. The current WTC cycle gives Head a realistic window to narrow the gap to Smith, and his recent form suggests he remains well placed to do so. Should he maintain his current rate of conversion, a move into second place on the all-time list is a genuine possibility before the cycle concludes.
