West Indies completed an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, on October 31, 2026, to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The visitors chased down a target of 170, finishing on 170/2, with Brandon King contributing an unbeaten 81 and John Campbell adding 49 in a 112-run opening stand. Kavem Hodge was not out at the close alongside King.
Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, described the result as 'a significant victory for West Indies cricket.' Bishop also noted that Bangladesh 'is no longer an easy team to defeat, especially at home,' acknowledging the hosts' growing strength in home conditions.
Bishop specifically highlighted the financial difficulties surrounding cricket in the Caribbean as the backdrop to his praise. He said the players 'have to be lauded for their commitment and professionalism' given those financial challenges faced by cricket in the region. He also noted 'one more test to go' and directed his congratulations to 'Roston Chase's men.'
"This is a significant victory for West Indies cricket. Bangladesh is no longer an easy team to defeat, especially at home. Given the financial challenges faced by cricket in the region, the players have to be lauded for their commitment and professionalism. One more test to go, but well to Roston Chase’s men," Bishop said in a social media post after the Caribbeans clinched the first Test.

Who were the Key performers in the Dhaka Test win for the West Indies?
The match, played from October 28 to 31, 2026, was interrupted on multiple occasions by bad light, rain and lightning. Despite those disruptions, West Indies maintained control across the four days. Roston Chase, who was named West Indies Test captain in May 2025, played a key role both with bat and ball. He scored 43 not out in the first innings of 245, helping restrict Bangladesh's first-innings lead to 27 runs, and then claimed 5/36 in Bangladesh's second innings of 142, a haul that also took him past 100 Test wickets.
Jomel Warrican was named Player of the Match after returning figures of 4/63 in Bangladesh's second innings. Bangladesh's Nayeem Hasan provided resistance with a maiden Test half-century of 52 in that second innings, having also taken 4/33 with the ball in West Indies' first innings. Bangladesh posted 272 in their first innings before being bowled out for 142 in the second.
The second Test of the series is scheduled to begin on November 5, 2026, in Sylhet, where West Indies will look to seal the series. This result follows West Indies' first Test series win against Sri Lanka in 23 years, which they achieved during the home series in June and July 2026. Bangladesh, for their part, had won three Tests away from home in a single calendar year for the first time in 2024, including a victory over West Indies, which underlines Bishop's point about their growing competitiveness at home.
