Toss Bangladesh chose to bat vs West Indies

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to bat first against West Indies in the first Test of their two-match World Test Championship series in Dhaka on Wednesday.

West Indies have included two fast bowlers in Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph, plus allrounder Justin Greaves, but left out Kemar Roach. In his place, Joshua Bishop has been handed a Test debut. Bishop, the 26-year-old left-arm spinner, Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase are the spin options.

The major news from the toss was that Mushfiqur Rahim, the 106-Test veteran, has been forced to miss out because of a hand injury. He picked up the injury in the nets during training on Tuesday. The last time Mushfiqur had missed a Test was also against West Indies, and also because of an injury, in the Caribbean in late 2024.

Bangladesh made two changes, with Shoriful Islam and Towhid Hridoy coming in for Mushfiqur and Ebadot Hossain.

The home side are also playing three spinners: Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan. The quicks in the mix are Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful.

West Indies will have Amir Jangoo keep wicket, with Shai Hope, who played West Indies' last Test in August, skipping the tour.
