Amit Mishra has been appointed spin bowling coach of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2027 season. The appointment was confirmed on October 21, 2026, and brings the veteran leg-spinner back to the franchise with which he spent the bulk of his playing career.
Mishra steps into a coaching group that has been substantially rebuilt ahead of IPL 2027. Sourav Ganguly has been named head coach, Yuvraj Singh joins as assistant and batting coach, and Chaminda Vaas takes charge of fast bowling. Mishra's role completes the specialist bowling structure within that setup.
This is Mishra's first assignment in coaching. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket last year, having last appeared in the IPL in 2024 after a playing career that spanned 16 seasons of the tournament.
What does Mishra bring to the Delhi Capitals coaching setup?
Mishra is among the most prolific wicket-takers in IPL history. He played 162 matches across his career in the competition, claiming 174 wickets at a best of 5 for 17. Those numbers place him firmly in the upper tier of bowlers the tournament has produced.
His record also includes a distinction that no other bowler in IPL history has matched: hattricks for three separate franchises. He took one for Delhi Daredevils in 2008, followed by another for Deccan Chargers in 2011, and completed the set with a third for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Ten of his 16 IPL seasons were spent with Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Capitals, giving him a familiarity with the franchise's environment that few coaches can claim. That long association is expected to help him settle quickly into a mentoring role with the squad's spin options.
Which Delhi Capitals spinners could benefit from Mishra's guidance?
Delhi Capitals have added meaningfully to their spin resources ahead of IPL 2027. Left-arm wrist spinner Zeeshan Ansari arrived through a trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad, with T Natarajan moving to Hyderabad as part of the same arrangement.
Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed are also part of the Delhi Capitals squad. Both are young wrist-spin bowlers at an early stage of their T20 careers, and working alongside Mishra, whose own playing record was built on the same discipline across 16 seasons, represents a significant opportunity for their development.
With Mishra's appointment confirmed, Delhi Capitals have assembled a coaching group that carries considerable playing experience across all three disciplines. The franchise will be looking to that collective background as preparations for IPL 2027 get under way.
